Hemorrhoids Treatment

 Hemorrhoids treatment

Hemorrhoids are swollen and distended varicose veins beneath the lining of the rectum and anus. They can be external (outside the anal opening), internal or both. Hemorrhoids, also known as piles, are a painful condition in which the veins around the anus or lower rectum are swollen and inflamed. Piles can result from straining to move stool, chronic constipation, diarrhea, and anal intercourse.

Hemorrhoids are common and often caused by or made worse by straining during bowel movements, constipation, prolonged sitting, pregnancy, obesity and low-fiber diets. Pregnant women and the elderly also suffer frequently from hemorrhoids. Further, men are more likely than women to experience the condition, largely because they tend to eat far less fibre. For most people, this may happen between the age of 20 and 50.

Doctors advise that one should go to the bathroom when one feels like taking a dump already. Sitting on the toilet bowl waiting for the main event to occur everyday will definitely contribute to hemorrhoids.

And as old wise men say, you are what you eat. If one crave and eat spicy foods like Bicol Express, Chili Chicken Curry, Bopis, or Laing with frightening frequency then one is more likely a prime candidate for hemorrhoids. Eating too much spicy foods and salty foods can aggravate the pain because it causes fluid retention that cause swelling in all veins.

A high-fiber diet has at least 25 grams of fiber. One must choose from high-fiber foods such as vegetables like beans, broccoli, carrots, bran, whole grains, fresh fruits, and nuts. If this may be a drastic change, one should introduce the diet slowly, increasing the intake everyday to help his or her body adjust to the diet. A low-fiber diet or inadequate fluid intake causes constipation that may encourage straining during bowel movement, or aggravate the hemorrhoids by producing hard stools that further irritate the swollen veins.

Here are some of the home remedies and treatment that doctors generally prescribe to help lessen the pain:

1. Sitting for long hours is not advisable. It is better to take breaks once in a while or walk for five minutes after every hour.

2. Apply petroleum jelly to make bowel movement less painful.

3. Apply an over-the-counter 0.5 percent hydrocortisone cream to the skin. Do not scratch hemorrhoids because it will just make everything worse, causing the damaged veins and skin to become more irritated.

4. Do not scrub the anal area excessively, especially with soap, because it can intensify the irritation.

5. Go to the toilet as soon as you feel the urge to do so. Waiting may cause constipation. Also, do not sit on the toilet for extended periods of time.

6. Exercise regularly.

7. Make it a point to lie down and take a rest as often as you can. When one is standing or sitting, the intestines and vertical organs are pushed down and apply pressure on your rectal area.

These will relieve the pain but for complete cure, one has to go for a thorough treatment.
